Returns

Returns Policy

At The Modern Bar Ltd, we aim to make the returns process straightforward and transparent.

This policy explains your rights when cancelling an order, returning unwanted goods or reporting faulty or damaged products.

Returns Summary

  • Most UK consumer purchases are covered by a 14-day statutory cancellation period.

  • Once cancellation has been notified, customers generally have a further 14 days to return the goods.

  • Customers are responsible for return shipping costs for change-of-mind returns, where applicable and disclosed before purchase.

  • Faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied goods are handled in accordance with your statutory rights.

  • Certain personalised or bespoke products may be exempt from change-of-mind cancellation rights.

1. Your Statutory Right to Cancel (UK Consumers)

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, consumers purchasing goods online generally have the right to cancel their order within 14 days of receiving their goods.

To exercise this right:

  • Notify us of your decision to cancel within 14 days of receiving your order.

  • You then have a further 14 days from notifying us to return the goods.

  • You may notify us by email or another clear statement confirming your decision to cancel.

You do not need to provide a reason for cancelling.

Unless the goods are faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied, you are responsible for the direct cost of returning them, where this responsibility has been disclosed before purchase.

Certain products may be excluded from statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights, as explained below.

Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

2. Exceptions to Statutory Cancellation Rights

Certain products may be exempt from the statutory 14-day cancellation period, including:

  • Products made to a customer's individual specifications.

  • Clearly personalised or customised products.

  • Other products that qualify for an exemption under UK consumer law.

Where an exemption applies, this will be clearly stated on the relevant product page.

Please note that products being made to order, large or delivered by pallet are not automatically exempt from statutory cancellation rights.

These exceptions do not affect your statutory rights if a product is faulty, damaged or not as described.

3. Return Shipping & Collection Costs

For change-of-mind returns, customers are responsible for the direct cost of returning goods where applicable and disclosed before purchase.

Depending on the product, returns may be arranged through a standard courier or specialist freight collection.

  • Standard items can generally be returned using a suitable courier service.

  • Larger or palletised products may require specialist collection.

  • Collection can be arranged by The Modern Bar Ltd where available.

  • Return costs depend on the product's size, weight and collection location.

For products that cannot normally be returned by post, the applicable return cost or a reasonable estimate will be provided before purchase.

Where we arrange a collection, we will confirm the collection arrangements and applicable charges before booking.

Additional reasonable charges may apply if an agreed collection fails because of circumstances within the customer's control, subject to applicable consumer rights.

4. Condition of Returned Goods

Customers may inspect goods to establish their nature, characteristics and functionality, as they would reasonably be permitted to do in a shop.

We recommend:

  • Keeping the original packaging where possible.

  • Returning all supplied accessories, components and instructions.

  • Packaging goods securely to prevent damage during return transport.

For statutory consumer cancellations, we may make a deduction from the refund where handling beyond what is necessary to inspect the goods has reduced their value, as permitted by law.

We do not automatically refuse statutory cancellation returns solely because the original packaging has been opened or removed.

5. Damaged, Faulty or Incorrect Goods

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, incomplete or incorrect, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

To help us investigate and resolve the issue, we recommend:

  • Reporting visible delivery damage within 24 hours wherever possible.

  • Providing your order number and a description of the issue.

  • Supplying photographs of the product and packaging where available.

  • Keeping the original packaging where practical until the issue has been reviewed.

These steps help us process claims efficiently but do not limit your statutory rights.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be:

  • As described

  • Of satisfactory quality

  • Fit for purpose

Where goods do not meet these requirements, we will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with your statutory rights, which may include repair, replacement or refund.

Where we are legally responsible for accepting a return of faulty or incorrectly supplied goods, we will cover reasonable return or collection costs.

6. Refund Processing

For statutory consumer cancellations, refunds will be issued within 14 days of receiving the returned goods or receiving evidence that they have been sent back, whichever is earlier.

Where goods have not yet been dispatched, refunds will be processed within the applicable statutory timeframe following cancellation.

Refunds will be made using the original payment method unless otherwise agreed.

For eligible statutory cancellations, refunds will include the original standard delivery charge where applicable. Additional charges for premium delivery services are generally not refundable beyond the standard delivery cost.

Any lawful deductions for diminished value will be explained where applicable.

For faulty goods, refunds will be handled in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and applicable refund deadlines.

7. Order Cancellations Before Delivery

If you wish to cancel an order before it has been delivered, please contact us as soon as possible.

Where statutory cancellation rights apply, you may cancel in accordance with those rights.

For products that are genuinely personalised or made to your specifications and exempt from statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights, cancellation arrangements may differ.

Any applicable product-specific cancellation conditions will be communicated before purchase.

8. Business Purchases

This policy explains the statutory rights available to consumers.

Where products are purchased wholly or mainly for business purposes, different legal rights and contractual return arrangements may apply.

Any additional business-to-business terms must be agreed or clearly communicated before purchase.

Nothing in this policy limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
