How do hand pulled beer pumps work?

Hand pulled beer pumps work by using a manual pull handle to draw beer from a container through a length of pipe and out through the tap. Unlike traditional keg systems, they do not require electricity or gas to dispense the beer.

When the handle is pulled forward, a piston inside the beer pump creates suction, pulling beer from a bag-in-box, polypin, cask or compatible container. Pushing the handle back resets the mechanism ready for the next pour.
